Peer Facilitators!
Annually, the Spark Change Project team hires a new cohort of high school-age Black and Brown girls to serve in their first professional roles at Peer Facilitators. The Peer Facilitators develop a platform and agenda to testify to local policymakers about issues impacting their communities. Spark Change Project policy priorities have included girls’ mental health, safe and supportive school environments, equity issues, healthy relationships, and others.
Girls share their lived experiences and knowledge to facilitate discussions at Town Hall events, Spark Change Day, Spark Change Camp and through written and spoken testimony given at the Texas Legislature.
Benefits

2023 Important Dates
SCP Orientation: Saturday, January 14th from 10:00 am-2:00 pm
Town Hall: Wednesday, February 1st 6:00-8:00 PM (subject to change)
Facilitators will present on a social justice issue of their choosing and connect with participants in their communities.
Spark Change Day: Saturday, March 11th from 10:00 am- 3:00pm
Facilitators will help develop and facilitate Spark Change Day, bringing together participants around Texas to learn more about issues affecting girls and how to testify about these issues to policymakers. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with policymakers at the Texas Capitol.
Spark Change Camp: June 5-June 9
Spark Change Camp will provide girls with the opportunity to engage in community service and learn how to become activists in their communities.
Requirments
Must be eligible to work in the United States
Full vaccinations will be mandatory unless there is a medical reason.
Position is open to students who will be Sophomore, Juniors, and Seniors in the 2022-2023 academic year and applicants must be 14 years of age or older
Available for approximately 10 hours per week
Ability to work in teams
Ability to attend both in-person and virtual work
Occasional weekend hours may be required
Applicants must live in Austin/the surrounding area to attend in-person weekly events
Strong personal alignment with and a commitment to the mission of Spark Change Project
A leader with a can-do spirit and a natural ability to build positive relationships with other people very quickly
Public speaking experience and willingness to increase public speaking engagements
